Questions?
Frequently asked questions
- Do you paint both interiors and exteriors?
- Yes, both, and often on the same property. Inside, that covers walls, ceilings, trims, doors and feature walls. Outside, it covers weatherboards, render, eaves, fascias and full facades, including double-storey homes. Bayside has a real mix of coastal weatherboard cottages and rendered period homes, and Kimon has painted plenty of both. When a home is going to market, doing the interior and exterior together usually gives the best result and the best value, because the whole property reads as cared for. He will walk the property with you and quote whatever you need, inside, out, or the lot.
- I have no idea what colours to choose. Can you help?
- That is one of the most common things people say, and it is exactly where Kimon's background helps. With a graphic design eye and decades of colour experience, he will look at your home's light, style and existing finishes and narrow things down to a shortlist that works, rather than leaving you staring at a paint fan. For bigger jobs he can also share a virtual colour mockup, so you can see a scheme on your own home before any painting starts. That takes the guesswork out of a bold exterior colour or a whole-house repaint. Whether you want a safe neutral for selling or something with more character, you will feel confident in the colour before he lifts a brush.
- Which areas do you cover?
- Fresh Space is based on the Parkdale foreshore and works right across Bayside and south-east Melbourne. That takes in the Kingston suburbs from Chelsea and Mordialloc up through Mentone, the Bayside strip from Brighton and Hampton across to Sandringham, Black Rock and Beaumaris, the Glen Eira suburbs like Bentleigh, Caulfield and Elsternwick, and the inner pocket of Elwood and St Kilda. If you are near the bay and not sure whether you are in the zone, just ask.
- How does getting a quote work?
- It starts with a free on-site inspection. You book a time that suits, Kimon comes to the property, walks through what you are after, and points out anything worth addressing before you sell or move in. From there you get a detailed written quote covering the painting and any repairs, with no obligation. Because he has run quotes on hundreds of pre-sale jobs, the advice is practical and honest. He will tell you where your money is best spent and where you can save it, rather than quoting for work you do not need. Once you are happy, you lock in a time that fits your timeline. Call 0406 868 020 or request a quote through the site to get started.
- How far before my auction should I get the painting done?
- The earlier you call, the more options you have, so it is worth getting Kimon out for a quote as soon as you have a sale in mind. As a rough guide, most pre-sale repaints are best done two to four weeks before the first open home. That gives time for a proper quote, for any repairs to be sorted before the painting starts, and for the paint to fully cure and air out, so the home smells fresh rather than freshly painted on inspection day. If you are working to a tight auction campaign, Kimon has spent years hitting agents' deadlines and can stage the work to fit. Book an on-site quote early and he will map the job to your selling timeline.
- What paints do you use?
- Kimon uses Dulux trade paints as standard, which are widely regarded as a reliable, hard-wearing choice for Australian homes and conditions. Where a job calls for it, he can also work with Haymes or Wattyl on request. The paint matters, but so does what goes on underneath it. A good deal of the finish, and how long it lasts, comes down to preparation, choosing the right product for each surface, and applying it properly, which is where four decades of experience earns its place. If you have a brand or colour preference, just mention it when you book.
- Do you do feature walls and custom finishes?
- Yes, feature walls are one of Kimon's favourite parts of the job, and it's where the graphic design background really shows. Alongside everyday interior and exterior painting, he takes on bold feature walls, custom colour and hand-finished effects, with the occasional hand-painted mural or a trompe l'oeil finish like an imitation brick so convincing most people cannot tell it from the real thing. If you have an idea for a wall that becomes the feature of a room, or a bold accent for a business space, bring it along when you book a quote.

One such customer wrote: "My Fresh Space exceeded my expectations through the quality of their workmanship. - How do I contact Fresh Space?
- Call 0406 868 020 during business hours or message us via our Facebook page. Quote requests through the contact form get a written response, usually within one business day.
- Do you do interior and exterior?
- Yes. Fresh Space handles full-house interiors, exterior weatherboard and render, decking, fences and commercial fit-outs.
- What's included in the quote?
- Surface preparation (sanding, filling, gap-sealing), undercoat where needed, two topcoats of premium paint, and a tidy site at the end. We tell you the paint brand and finish on the quote. No swapping to cheaper alternatives without your sign-off.
- Which paint brands do you use?
- Dulux as standard, with Haymes and Wattyl on request. Premium ranges, not the builder-grade tins. Happy to use a specific brand or low-VOC line if you prefer; just tell us at quote time.
- What's involved in the painting process?
- Surface prep (sanding, filling, gap-sealing), masking and drop-sheets, undercoat where needed, two topcoats of premium paint, then a tidy site. We work room-by-room so the house stays liveable. The proposed schedule is set out in your written quote.
- Do I need to move furniture?
- We move furniture to the centre of the room and cover everything with drop-sheets. For very heavy or delicate pieces (pianos, antiques) we coordinate with you upfront. Wardrobes, beds and sofas. We've got it.
- What happens if there's lead paint in the older sections?
- We test suspect areas before sanding. Older homes can have lead paint, which needs careful handling: containment, dust control, protective equipment and proper disposal. We follow safe-work and disposal requirements, and quote any lead work as a separate line item so the cost is always clear.
- How long is the workmanship warranty?
- Fresh Space stands behind its workmanship and backs every job with a satisfaction guarantee. If something isn't right as a result of our work, we'll put it right. Any paint-manufacturer warranty on the products used is passed through to you.
- What's the difference between water-based and oil-based?
- Water-based (acrylic) is the modern standard. Easier to clean, lower odour, faster drying, holds up well indoors and out. Oil-based suits high-traffic trim, fence stains, and metalwork. We'll recommend the right system for each surface.
